Presenter: Melody Bishop BSc, RRT, CCAA

Webinar Date: Wednesday, April 1st, 2026 at 2pm

Webinar Description:

Interpreting ventilator waveforms can often feel like trying to read a foreign language. Understanding those “squiggles on the vent” requires a solid foundation in both physics and physiology, and a keen eye for what normal looks like.

Join Melody Bishop as she brings her passion for simplifying complex respiratory concepts to this interactive and clinically focused session. This webinar will demystify ventilator waveforms and patient-ventilator dyssynchrony through a physiologic lens, helping clinicians confidently recognize, interpret, and correct dyssynchrony at the bedside.

Whether you’re new to mechanical ventilation or looking to refine your waveform interpretation skills, this session will give you practical tools to improve patient outcomes and ventilator management.

This webinar is approved for 1 CSRT CPD credit.

Key Takeaways:

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of dyssynchrony and its impact on patient care.
  • Identify “normal” ventilator waveforms to detect early signs when things are going wrong.
  • Differentiate types of patient-ventilator dyssynchrony, including:
    • Trigger Dyssynchrony (false, missed, delayed, and reverse triggers)
    • Cycling Dyssynchrony (early cycling, late cycling, and double triggers)
    • Support Dyssynchrony (flow starvation, work shifting, and pressure overshoot)
  • Apply quick and practical fixes for each type of dyssynchrony when troubleshooting at the bedside.

Melody Bishop (B.Sc.) is a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Certified Clinical Anaesthesia Assistant (CCAA) with over 18 years of experience in critical care medicine. Her extensive career has spanned intensive care, emergency medicine, and the operating room. Driven by a passion for complex medical challenges, Melody has also worked in flight medicine as an emergency first responder, providing stabilization and transport for patients from remote communities to healthcare centres across Southern Canada.
