Job Description:
Reporting to the Manager, Respiratory Therapy and the Critical Care Response Teams, the RT Resource Lead is the key leader who will assume coordination of the day to day operations. The Resource Lead will promote an environment that is dedicated to providing quality patient care. You will also facilitate and support strong communication and interdisciplinary relationships You will provide support to the patient flow team to optimize bed utilization. It is expected that through collaboration with the RT Educator and the RT Professional Practice Leader the Resource Lead will continually seek and identify opportunities to improve patient care and safety, while encouraging team cohesion through the sharing of information or expertise, coaching, mentoring and working together to problem solve.
The Resource Lead will primarily focus on actively supporting patient care and staff on the units.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide support to staff and patients on an ongoing basis by rounding daily and ensuring to provide any operational supports required for patient care
- Be present at shift change to understand urgent patient care or staffing issues, and assist in organizing the workflow for the day
- Attend the daily bed meetings at the hospital and huddles in the ICU in order to assist with any patient flow opportunities (e.g. patient transfers to other facilities)
- Facilitate appropriate care planning with the interprofessional team to support seamless transitions for our patients
- Be familiar with the patient care plans and ensure consistency between shifts
- Liaises with his / her counterpart at the MH
- Liaises with charge RNs in ICU daily and other units as needed
- Act as the initial contact person for patient and family inquiries; infection prevention and control; patient flow and general daily operational inquires
- Is a positive role model and change champion for new initiatives
- Assists in the development of effective interpersonal relationships among interprofessional team through coaching, mentoring and facilitating difficult conversations
- Monitors the quality of patient care and workload through daily huddles and monitoring of key quality metrics on the Quality Board
- Reports clinical/performance issues to the Clinical Manager including potential solutions for resolution
- Responsible for ensuring unplanned absences are appropriately covered
- Reviews all patient safety incidents by investigating and informing the manager of areas of concern
- Supports the department and the manager in the collection, monitoring and reporting of RT workload on a monthly basis, including staff compliance with submitting workload per shift
- Responsible for overseeing the ordering supplies and ensuring just in time inventory is sufficient for patient care needs
- Acts as a key liaison with suppliers, vendors and biomedical engineering as applicable
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist with current certificate in excellent standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists
- Minimum of five years acute care experience with the medicine and critical care patient population
- Demonstrates a commitment to life-long professional development
- Recent experience in mentoring and preceptoring
- ACLS and BLS Certificate required
- Excellent performance and attendance required
- Exceptional and demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), including conflict resolution, negotiation, ability to have difficult conversations.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Demonstrated exceptional critical thinking and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Member in good standing with the CRTO
- Formal education in healthcare, health policy, change management, quality or patient safety
- Advanced knowledge of hospital standards, policies, procedures, reporting structure and emergency measures
- Has the ability and desire to create a positive work environment where all staff are motivated to do their best
Previous experience in process improvement
Experience with implementation and working with HIS
- Ability to role model leadership behaviours and a desire for continuous improvement
- Demonstrates compassion, excellence and courage in daily interactions with patients, families, staff, physicians, learners and volunteers
- Demonstrated respect and support for diversity within and among our patients, families and teams
